Teaching Surfing this way for three years has forced us to be creative.  We have figured out solutions to every step of the learning challenges that we have faced with the hundreds of friends s that have come our way.
We have chosen to share this knowledge with the world.  We think that a few of the Surf-Thirty techniques that we have developed are unique, and we know that they are powerful tools in getting our friends up and surfing in 30 minutes or less.

Step 1 - Getting up
3 Things to Remember in Preparation
(Before the Pull)
  1. Heels at the Edge of the Board, with Toes Pointing Straight up
  2. Knees Slightly Bent, Prepared to go into Squatting Position
  3. Arms Straight in Front of You

Step 2 - Getting up
3 Things to Remember at the Pull

  1. Heel Pressure Down, tilts the board up against your feet
  2. Boat Pulls You into Squatting Position
  3. Let the Boat do all of the work, take your time before standing

Step 2A - The Statue of Liberty
How to Help a Struggling First Time Surfer Get Up

  1. Shorten the Rope.  Hopefully you are using a thick wakesurfing rope.  If you have gloves, put them on
  2. Stand on the Swim Step of the Boat During the Pull
  3. Hold (Push) the Rope Over your Head, During the Pull.  This will Change the Angle of the Pull, and Pulls the Surfer More "Up & Out of the Water"
  4. See Video Samples Immediately Below

Step 2B - The Goofy Challenge
3 Things to Do Differently if You are Goofy

(Right Foot Forward)
Most boats only put up a good wake on the "Regular" Side forcing the Goofy surfers to surf backside.
  1. You must stand up quickly and prepare for a hard "toe side" turn.
  2. Once you stand up, bring the handle to your right (front) hip, to point the board at the boat.
  3. Lean onto your toes, make the hard left turn to swing away from the boat, and outside of the wake
  4. Get stable, keep the nose of your board out of the water, and get the board "flat" on the water, so that you are not leaning on your toes any longer.
