Surf Setup - Ballast & Trim for Regular Side Surfing - "right" surfing only, no goofy possible

  • BILGE PUMP OPERATION - If you hear an alarm tone during the day, it is likely the Bilge alarm.  Make sure the Bilge Pump Switch is turned on until the water is cleared.
  • MAXIMUM ENGINE RPMS - You should never Surf with so much weight that the boat needs over 3700 RPM continuously.  Best results in wake size and fuel economy are around 3500-3600 RPM, at 10.7 MPH.  Go slower for rookies, and slightly faster for a longer wake
  • There are 5 built in ballast pumps on board, with switches on the panel at the captains right knee.  These pumps have 3 positions, OFF (center) and IN (fill the ballast bag) and OUT (empty the ballast bag).
  • ANY BAG THAT IS BEING FILLED OR EMPTIED MUST BE "WATCHED".  The actual hatch or seat cover must be opened so that the captain can carefully monitor the progress to fill or empty the ballast bag.  Careless overfilling or emptying of ballast past the empty point resulting in "running the pump dry" will damage the ballast pumps.
  • Do not allow the pumps to overfill the ballast bags.  This can damage the bag, or damage the fittings, or damage the plumbing.  The ballast pumps are capable of creating high pressure and rupturing plumbing and bags.
  • Note that to operate any of the ballast pumps, you must first turn on the "Master Ballast" button.  The pumps will only operate with this switch "on".  Turn the switch "off" after you have correctly set your ballast.  This will prevent inadvertent ballast changes due to knocking switches.
  • Top Port Button = Midships Port - Under Seat (fill for surfing)
  • Bottom Port Button = Aft Port (fill for surfing) MUST "BURP" THE BAG AS IT FILLS, TO GET MAXIMUM WEIGHT
  • Top Starboard Button = Midships Starboard - Under Seat (FILL HALF WAY for surfing)  If the boat has trouble getting to speed at maximum 3600 RPM, this bag should be emptied first
  • Bottom Starboard Button = Aft Starboard (not operational today, empty for surfing)
  • Bottom Most Button = Forward Ballast (fill for surfing)  NOTE THAT YOU MUST WATCH THIS BAG AS IT CURRENTLY LEAKS, AND NEEDS TO BE REFILLED ABOUT EVERY HALF HOUR
  • All black ballast bags (weight) should be moved to the Port Aft seat (rear corner seat, surfing side)
  • ADJUSTMENTS FOR LOAD - If you have a lot of people on board, you may need to dump some ballast from the Port and Starboard Forward Bags.  Do not operate the boat at over 3700 RPM.  Best results are 3500-3600 RPM around 10.7 MPH.
  • The Trim Tab should be adjusted to the "up" position, which allows the boat to settle to the lowest possible position in the water, dig the biggest hole, and create the largest wake / wave.
  • All passengers should sit on the port side of the boat, and if the police and coast guard are not present, placing a large person on the rear port side deck cushion will create the largest possible wave.
  • When your session is over, all ballast bags should be completely emptied (while being carefully monitored by the captain).  The black weight bags should be returned to their position behind the captains seat.
